However, there is a 30% chance of brief SCA level gusts between Point Conception and San Nicolas Island this afternoon and evening. Conditions should remain mostly below Small Craft Advisory (SCA) levels through Friday. No changes to the marine forecast in the afternoon issuance.įor the Outer Waters, moderate confidence in the forecast. Temperatures are expected to stay well below normal into early next week. Can't even rule out enough deepening of the marine layer to squeeze out some drizzle or light rain for some coastal areas south of Pt Conception. While the deterministic models are indicating a slow shift to the east of the upper low and slight warming through early next week, more of the ensembles now are showing the low lingering at least into Sunday with even some possibility for convection returning to the mountains. The uncertainties from the short term continue into the longer term forecast as there really hasn't been a good consistent solution from the models with regard to the pesky upper low over the area. For Wednesday and Thursday models indicate some weakening of the onshore flow and a few degrees of warming, though not super confident in this as several ensemble solutions keep the upper low parked over the area through at least Friday and it seems more likely we'll see a continuation of the cooler pattern with a relatively deep marine layer. Looks like a pretty similar scenario Tuesday with the marine layer in the 2000-2500' range and temps generally 3-6 degrees below normal. Some areas have been running as much as 10 to 13 degrees cooler than yesterday, especially in the lower foothill regions which had been above the inversion base until today's deepening. The marine layer deepened this morning to over 2000' which lead to slower clearing and general cooling across the coast and valleys. Pattern looks fairly similar Tuesday so expect at least one more round of this tomorrow and likely Wednesday as well, though the moisture and stability parameters do start becoming less favorable Wednesday and beyond.Įlsewhere, a pretty quiet and low impact stretch of days coming up as a weak upper low lingers over southern California. One difference from previous days is the flow aloft has lost most of the northerly component so the chances for storms to drift south over the coastal valleys is much less. Storms have been detected as far west as Big Pine Mountain in eastern Santa Barbara County and activity will likely continue through early evening with small hail and isolated minor flooding possible as well. There's likely some pretty heavy rain falling though so far not too much reaching rain gauges. There is a chance of thunderstorms over the mountains each afternoon through Wednesday.Ī little more convective activity today with some Probability of Precipitation up storms over the mountains and some isolated lightning strikes. Night through morning low clouds will continue through the week. The coasts and valleys will have below normal temperatures while the interior remains above normal.
